A 99-year-old Italian man was furious after he found out that his wife of 77 years had an affair more than half a century ago.

The man, identified as Antonio C. in court papers, found letters his wife, identified as Rosa, exchanged with a lover in the 1940s. Antonio made this discovery while rifling through an old chest of drawers and immediately confronted his wife. She admitted to the affair before she tried to convince her husband to stick with their marriage.

Neither Rosa's apologies nor the 60 years that had passed since the affair were able to convince Antonio who is now filing for divorce.

Their marriage wasn't rosy before the discovery of the letters either: 10 years ago Antonio had left their house to move in with one of their sons and returned back home a few weeks later. According to him, the affair was the straw that broke the camel's back.

According to a Telegraph article, the Italian media is attributing Antonio's angry decision to his southern Italian background (he is originally from Olbia in Sardinia), but what do you think of his harsh decision? Was it justified of him to hold a grudge against something that happened 60 years ago or is he over-reacting?
